Love all of this! My motivation? Helping people--it gets me out of bed in the morning, and it found me again when I thought I had lost it after working through COVID. I know I'm needed, and I get to share my gifts of story and connection in my work. Also--my fantastic son, RLB. Our morning "huggas and kissy-kissys" bring me so much joy. Thank you for sharing your journey Ami! xo
So here's my strategy, I try to stay creative (I've been crocheting up a storm) AND try something outside of my comfort zone. To that end I auditioned for my community theater production of Anything Goes and got a part!! Rehearsals start next month and the show opens the beginning of April. Getting on stage, belting out tunes and meeting some creative theater people is just the motivation I need to keep me moving forward.
Jean! I don't think I could love this more! Crocheting and musical theatre. Be still my heart. I saw Patti Lupone do Anything Goes on Broadway when I was a kid. Formative experience. Break a leg! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4T3AWWxU3k
Hey Ami, thank you for sharing! It's not an easy feat to stay motivated during this seemingly neverending January 🥲 I think it makes sense to consider the Chinese New Year the actual start - it more or less lines up with Imbolc too, the pagan holiday which celebrates getting out of the darkest days of the year, new life and energy coming back, etc. I find that's a much more hopeful vibe compared to New Year's Eve, when you know the whole of January is in front of you!
I'm with you on the endorphins front: just today I went back to the gym (and their sauna 😄). And also same on the creativity side: it may be singing for you or sculpting clay for someone else, but I think having a daily reminder that we have the power to create something where there was nothing is a very important to feeling like we matter and therefore, feeling more motivated :)
Angelica, thanks for your comment! Yes, I think there's such a sense of accomplishment when it comes to creating something. Feeling accomplished definitely bolsters a sense of purpose. Happy Lunar New Year and Imbolc! Sending fresh slate vibes. :)
I am with you and feeling like a human couch cushion. Walking is always my easy default; just put one foot in front of the other, and Brooklyn delivers, but it has been so cold my dog even turns around to head home immediately.
I am having a potluck with 2 friends this week. We picked a cuisine type and the dishes each will make, and it makes for a social event to look forward to and break up the week.

Being needed is such a great motivation and you are so good at helping people! And your son...he motivates me. xo

Right back at you 😊✨️
Ami, Thank you for this list. Love Leonard Cohen.

Thanks, Kate! Love the potluck idea. And yes, I'm also waiting for walking weather to come back around. More walking, less couch cushion. xo
