#65: Brain Bats and Buried Ideas: Cast Your Vote!
Fueled by election energy and Halloween candy, I'm digging into my Idea Graveyard. Vote to resurrect one of these "almost" ideas for my next newsletter!
Laid Off Life is a place of respite for the weary workforce. Whether you’re unemployed, underemployed, or just trying to make it through the workday, let this be your 5-minute mental break from the grind of late-stage capitalism.
I don’t know if it’s the wild election day energy or if I’m still buzzing from all that Halloween candy, but I am too restless to focus! Picture bats flapping wildly around my brain—that kind of chaos. Let’s just say it’s not exactly conducive for productivity…or writing.
Not every idea I have makes it to you. Some end up in your inbox each week, but others? They end up buried in my Idea Graveyard.
The Idea Graveyard is where my not-fully-baked, almost-but-not-quite-ready ideas go to rest in peace. Trust me, I have plenty of them. Years ago, my favorite growth and leadership coach, Amy K., taught me something valuable: to honor all ideas by writing them down, no matter how weird, bad, or half-formed they seem.
For over 20 years now, I’ve been scribbling down every little lightbulb moment, but not all ideas are created equal. Some come to life right away. Others hang around for a bit, take their time gestating, and then decide to be born. Some, however, rest in peace the graveyard, sometimes for years, sometimes forever.
So, in the spirit of election week, I’m putting it to you, readers, to vote on what you’d like to read next. Below are five ideas from my Laid Off Life Idea Graveyard. Which one deserves a second chance? Vote now, and let’s see which idea wins!
Cheap Thrills: Fall Lip Balms
I went on an absolute lip balm bender over the last few weeks. I was determined to find that perfect fall shade—one that screams autumn but doesn’t leave my lips dried out or too sticky. You know, that ideal blend of color and texture that’s somehow elusive. So, I tried them all (seriously, I lost count). These are my favorite finds, each one bringing just the right balance of fall vibes and buttery smoothness. (And P.S. Sephora is having their savings event right now, so there will be discounts to be had!)
AMI COLÉ Lip Oil Treatment ($20). Hydrate, gloss, and tint in one. This lip oil-to-gloss adds a touch of shine and a hint of sheer color in universally flattering shades.
Tower28 Beauty LipSoftie™ Hydrating Tinted Lip Treatment Balm ($16). Combines the hydration of a lip mask with a hint of sheer tint for instantly smooth, pillowy-soft lips. It also smells GREAT.
Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm ($24). I have this product in several shades (DON’T JUDGE ME). I just like it so much. It’s silky like buttah with a cozy touch of warm chocolate color. Bonus: It actually smells like hot cocoa!
NATURIUM Phyto-Glow Lip Balm: The Moody Collection ($25). I was feeling moody and couldn’t decide which color I liked best in this trio of Ruby, Crimson, and Midnight, so I bought the entire bundle! I love the colors and they have a great lip-shaped applicator which it good for swiping on without a mirror. Meaning, I leave them in my purse.
